The Minister of Transports, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe will this Tuesday August 10 hold a crisis meeting with promoters of interurban transport and freight agencies after the country lost 40 people in three road accidents in less than 24 hours.
As announced last week, the highly awaited meeting between the Government and promoters of transport agencies hold this Tuesday at about 2pm at the Ministry of Transports in Yaounde.
Together with stakeholders in the transport sector, especially interurban and freight, Minister Ngalle Bibehe will sort to understand what happened respectively in Makenene, Awae and Obala, localities in the Centre region, last August 4 and 5 that stripped life out of 40 people including children and sent many others to the hospital and in critical conditions.
Among the promoters summoned are those of the agencies involved in the road accidents; Charter Express agency, Synohydro company, Avenir voyages transport agency and Solidarité voyages transport agency. Nothing has filtered on whether or not they shall be held accountable for damage caused.
Following the three deadly accidents, Minister Ngalle Bibehe had in a communique threatened to suspend interurban transport and freight companies that will henceforth be involved in any road accident, without prejudice to a legal action for which he will immediately refer to competent authorities.
According to the Transports boss, the accidents are as a result of negligence on the part of drivers on the one hand and promoters of the said agencies on the other hand.
A point of view shared by the Minister of Territorial Administration who in an outing following that of Minister Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe urged the ten Governors to sensitize drivers of heavy-duty vehicles who are most of the times responsible for road accidents, and owners of transport agencies on the need to use the rest areas created by the State for drivers to have time off when they are tired. He too was ferm on the fact that defaulters will henceforth face the law.
